STUMPFF FAMILY TRADITION AND HISTORY

George Marshel Stumpff (1870-1951), was a farmer and livestock trader in Stone and Barry Counties.  He homesteaded in what is now known as Dry Holler and was well known in the community as a good neighbor and an honest man.

Gareld Marshel (1915-1994), the youngest son of George Marshel, was a merchant at heart.  He owned two grocery stores over the years, but his real interest was selling shoes which he did for Fenton's Store in Crane for many years.  He too, was respected in the Crane Community as a religious and honest man.

Gary Max, the youngest son of Gareld Marshel, started in funeral service at the age of 14 with the Manlove Funeral Home in Crane which he later purchased.  The Cheatham Funeral Home in Galena was also purchased in 1963 and a new facility was built in Kimberling City in 1986, known as Stumpff Funeral Home-South.  He spent over 40 years serving families during their most difficult time.  Gary passed away in August of 2009 leaving an unpresidented legacy of committment to others.

Garrick Monroe (Rick), the eldest son of Gary Max has spent his entire life associated with funeral service.  He lived his early years in the funeral home in Galena and grew up washing cars, mowing lawns, carrying flowers and doing other tasks involved in the day to day operation of funeral homes.  He and his wife, Darla are presently the owners of Stumpff Funeral Homes.  They have two sons, Gregory and Timothy.

Gregory Michael, oldest son of Garrick Monroe, is involved in making Memorial Videos honoring the life of the deceased and giving a lasting memory in pictures and music to the surviving family.
