Barbara Jo
Horn
Sep 27, 1940 — May 4, 2026
Galena
Barbara Jo Horn, 85, of Galena, passed away peacefully at home on May 4, 2026.
Barbara was born on September 27, 1940 in Galena, Missouri. Her parents, Louis Hammers and Crystal Smith Hammers, owned the Reeds Spring Telephone Company. As a child, Barbara would help with the business, even when that meant riding with Dad to deliver the message of an incoming call or doctor request. After graduating high school, she moved to California where she met her future husband of 35 years, Richard Leigh Haller. Barbara worked at Farmers Insurance after her daughters finished school. After Richard passed in 1999, she returned to Missouri. At a High School reunion of sorts in 2001, Barbara was reintroduced to Howard Lee Horn, and they married three years later.
Barbara was an avid reader, loved embroidery, enjoyed square dancing, and was an impressive clogger.
Always up for any adventure, especially if it included travel, Barbara found herself in many memorable destinations; including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, London England, Nova Scotia, New Zealand, New York City, and her personal bucket list, Niagara Falls. One of her greatest joys was spending summers exploring the Alaska bush with Howard in his Cessna 206 floatplane.
Both the Horn and Jordan families feel deeply blessed that Barbara and Howard found one another, shared their lives, and connected our families.
She is survived by her daughters Debbie Jordan and her husband Wade Jordan, and daughter Cindy Holderfield; and by Howard’s children, Tina Zimmerman and her husband Tom Zimmerman, Katy Burton and her husband Rod Burton, and Junior Horn and his wife Ronna Bush. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Brandon Lewsader and his wife Michael, Austin Jordan, Ryan Jordan, Owen Holderfield, Ella Horn, Samantha Barnhart, and Darron Barnhart; and by her great-grandchildren, Wyatt Jordan, Walker Jordan, Branson Barnhart, Millie Mae Barnhart, Truly Barnhart, and Vander Barnhart.
Barbara will be remembered as tough as nails, socially engaging, and strong-willed. She was lovingly involved with her entire family, and deeply welcoming and connected to the people around her, whether she had known them her entire life, or just met them in the checkout line at the grocery store.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and brother Jerry Hammers, and the extended Horn family.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 11:00 am in Stumpff Funeral Chapel, 65 Comfort Lane, Kimberling City, MO.
