Carolyn
Underwood
May 10, 1938 — Aug 2, 2026
Carolyn Frances Underwood
Carolyn was born on May 10, 1938, in Berwyn, Illinois to Harold and Leona (Glovotski) Jannenga and passed away peacefully on Sunday morning August 2, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Aurora, Missouri.
She was the older sister to Janet and Barry. She grew up in Westmont, Illinois where she graduated high school and later met and married Donald Underwood. They moved to Lisle, Illinois and had five girls all 2 years apart that were her pride and joy. She volunteered at the schools when they were young until getting a job at Lyle Public Library as a bookkeeper. Needing a slower paced life Don and Carolyn and the three youngest girls moved to Cape Fair Missouri where they opened D&C Auto Repair in 1978. Carolyn had many jobs in Missouri including garment factory work, timeshare, bookkeeping, and flower shop. Her last job before retirement was at the Stone County Recorder's Office in Galena. She was a long-time member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Kimberling City where she taught Sunday school and was on several committees. She loved to sing and often sang in the choir as well as doing solos and duets. When her mobility kept her from driving to church, she enjoyed watching services on TV on Sunday mornings with her Cocker Spaniel, BabyGirl.
Carolyn never met a stranger and loved to talk. Never meeting a stranger. She also loved to help people in need. She will be greatly missed by those that loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Underwood; her parents, Harold and Leona; her sister, Janet Higgins- Jerry and brother, Barry Jannenga.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Hernandez and LeAnn Craig, both of Texas, Shelley Jones of Arkansas, Sharon Peterson and husband, George (Pete) of Reeds Spring, Missouri and Debbie Foust and husband James (Jim) of Cape Fair, Missouri. Her 3 granddaughters, Diana of New York, Elizabeth and Rachel both of Texas and grandson, Justin (Stephanie) Pfaffly of Tennessee and several great grandchildren, having just met her latest born in May, little Oliver (Ollie) Pfaffly. No services are planned. Cremation was under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home, Crane, Missouri.
