Eldred Leo Moyers Obituary:

On Saturday, February 27, 2021, Eldred Leo Moyers, devoted and loving husband, father, papaw, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend passed away at the age of 83.

Leo was born in Arlington, Kentucky to Bryan Addison and Mattie Ivy (Nicholson) Moyers. He joined the Army and left home a few days before his 18th birthday in 1956 for Basic Training. He spent what he always referred to as the coldest winter of his life at Fort Leonard Wood before accepting his orders for service in the 25 th Infantry, Schofield Barracks, Honolulu, Hawaii.

After being set up by a friend, he and the love of his life, Shirley Ann Woehrle, were married on February 13, 1960 in Ferguson, MO. They just celebrated 61 years of marriage. Together they raised two children, daughter Lee Ann and son David.

Leo worked 35 years in Ramp Service at Trans World Airlines (TWA) in St. Louis. This career enabled him and his family the unique opportunity to travel across the United States, Mexico and Europe. Having fallen in love with the beautiful state of Hawaii during his time in the Army, Leo and Shirley visited there with friends and family 7 times.

Leo loved to hunt and fish. He raised English Setters and Brittany Spaniels. Leo always loved dogs, so his hunting dogs were also his pets. (However, he sure didn't appreciate his daughter and nieces dressing up a litter of puppies in doll clothes one summer!)

Leo and Shirley started spending time each winter in Llano Grande Park, Mercedes Texas. Eventually, upon Shirley's retirement, they officially called themselves Winter Texans. They were able to enjoy winters with friends and family in Texas for 21 years.

Having camped at Pomme de Terre Lake, Clearwater Lake, Bull Shoals Lake and Table Rock Lake for years, when they retired, Leo and Shirley sold their home in O'Fallon, Missouri and bought a beautiful home on Table Rock Lake. Leo loved to fish and had several special fishing buddies from Twin Island Estates he especially loved to fish with. However, probably his greatest joy of living on the lake was being able to provide a place for his grandchildren, Jordan, Joshua and Lauren to water ski, wakeboard and tube. He would pull them for hours and never complain. He taught numerous people how to water ski over the years.

Leo was also active in church. While living in O'Fallon, he served over the years as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Elder at O'Fallon Christian Church. Leo didn't just attend church. He actively lived his faith in Christ. Following retirement to the Branson area and south Texas, Leo and Shirley faithfully attended RGV Christian Church, Weslaco Texas and First Christian Church in Kimberling City Missouri.

One of Leo's greatest attributes was how well he loved. He would see a need and do what he could fill it, whether it was mowing someone's yard or giving them vegetables from his garden. Even in his last days, as cancer consumed his body, he would ask how others were. More concerned about them, then himself. Because he loved so well, he was also much loved. His family is forever grateful for the love that has been bestowed upon us these past few weeks.

Leo knew a place in Heaven was prepared for him and we, his family, know he'll hear the words "Well done, my good and faithful servant".

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Bryan and Mattie, his brother Raymond, and his sister Edwina Fortner. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife Shirley, daughter Lee Ann (Steven) Marsh, son David Bryan (Brenda) Moyers, grandchildren Jordan (Suzy) Marsh, Joshua (Taylor) Moyers and Lauren (fiancée Adam Faulkner) Marsh, great grandchildren Sadie and Hunter Moyers, sister Kay (Ray) Schell, and many special nieces, nephews and cousins, including his double-cousin, Smitty (Peggy) Moyers, as well as many, many friends.

A special thank you to Good Shepherd Hospice who so lovingly helped us navigate this journey.

Visitation will be held, Friday, March 5, 2021, 9:00-10:30 a.m. with the funeral service following at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church, Kimberling City, MO with nephew, Pastor Kevin Moyers, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Leo's memory may be sent to College of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, MO or Lives Under Construction, Lampe, MO.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, in accordance with local ordinances, face masks must be worn during the visitation and funeral. While we cherish your love, we also ask that everyone maintain the recommendations for social distancing.
