Reeds Spring
Elma Colleen Armitage ("Colleen"), known as Nonnie by family and friends, passed away at the age of 94 at home with her daughter, Melanie, by her side on April 16, 2022. She was born November 2, 1927, in Conway, Arkansas to W.D Cox and Laura Flurry Cox. Colleen was a child prodigy and later used that gift to teach others and continue to learn throughout her life. She was a graduate of Hendrix College in Conway, received a Masters in Education, and also trained as a psych tech.
In 1951 she married Gene "Poppy" Armitage and together they had four children. They planted roots in Reeds Spring, Missouri in 1991 in a home on the lake. Colleen loved being outside tending her gardens, working in the yard, or watching the birds while enjoying the deck. She was an avid reader, doll collector, and a fan of dancing, the beach, and key lime pie. She will be remembered for always humming a tune, walking on her toes, and loving the babies.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene, and sisters, Annette Cox and Carmen Reed. She is survived by a sister, Dinah Flurry, her four children, Karen (John) Curl, Mark (Jolie) Armitage, David (Carolyn) Armitage, and Melanie Armitage; 8 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
