James Victor Sweeney Sr peacefully passed away on May 3, 2022, with loving family members by his side.

James was born on June 3, 1939, in Osceola, MO to Lawrence and Mildred Sweeney.  He and his brother, Lawrence Jr grew up on a farm in Osceola and shared many adventures together.

In 1957, he joined the United States Army and served his country with pride until 1960.  After completing his service, he moved to Dubuque, Iowa.  During this time he had multiple careers including law enforcement, truck driving and security until his retirement.  In 2008 he moved back home to the Ozarks, and lived his remaining years in Kimberling City and Reeds Spring with his son.

James loved hunting with his sons, sons-in-law and friends.  He also loved boating and fishing with his family.  He loved telling stories of his life adventures.

James was preceded in death by his mother, father and a great grandson.

James is survived by his brother, Lawrence Sweeney and wife, Roxann of Kansas City, MO area, sister, Debbie Fausett and husband, Rodney of Kirbyville, MO, daughters,  Bobbie Flannegan and husband, Jessie of New Mexico and Victoria Mings and husband, Thomas of Kirbyville; sons, Joseph Sweeney and wife, Peggy of Georgia, James Sweeney Jr and wife, Amy of Reeds Spring, MO, Lawrence Sweeney and wife, Renee of Kirksville, MO; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside Service will be Tuesday, June 10, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery Springfield, MO.  Arrangements are under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home Kimberling City, MO.
