Blue Eye

Obituary

Michael “Mike” Dean Chapman of Blue Eye, Missouri was born on July 12, 1952 to Rosalee and Hairl Dean Chapman. He passed away on October 5, 2026 at the age of 74 in St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Mike was a loving husband, father and grandfather whose life reflected his loyalty, honesty, and devotion to family. He was a man of his word, if he said he would do something, consider it done. He was a longtime member and board member of the Mt. Olivet Free Will Baptist Church in Blue Eye, MO. He dearly loved his church family as his own and was so proud of their youth ministry and support of the school.

Athletics was a lifelong passion, especially baseball. Mike played Division I baseball at Kansas State University where he was the starting third baseman during his junior and senior years and earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Physical Education. After graduation college he began his teaching and coaching career at Climax Springs. It was there he met Marcia Wallace who became his wife and the love of his life. They later moved back to the Blue Eye area. Mike taught and coached at Blue Eye, Crane and retired from Reeds Spring.

“Pa” as he was affectionately known to his family shared his love of athletics with his sons, Jeremy and Jordan. He coached Jeremy in baseball and basketball throughout elementary school and in high school baseball. He also coached Jordan in high school golf. Coaching gave him the opportunity to share both his knowledge of sports and his commitment to his players. He significantly impacted the lives of many of his players and loved them all.

Pa also loved to hunt and fish and, like coaching, shared his knowledge and passion with his family. The many memories of deer hunting, pheasant hunting and fishing trips will be treasured by his family.

In his later years, one of Pa’s greatest joys was watching his grandson, Dexter play baseball. He rarely missed a game, even when getting there meant a significant drive. He was extremely proud of Dexter and the talented player he has become. His presence at those games was another expression of the love and dependability his family knew so well. Before he became ill, Pa also had the joy of holding his new granddaughter, Rose Elizabeth Chapman, a precious moment for his family to remember

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Hairl Dean and Rosalee Chapman of Blue Eye. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marcia; sons Jeremy Michael and wife Claire and grandson Dexter of Batesville, AR, Jordan and wife Cheyenna, grandchildren, Rose Chapman and Caden Herd of Blue Eye, MO; his brother Tim and wife Kim of Blue Eye, MO and nephew Garett and wife Katy and great niece Saylor and great nephew Hayes of Ava, Missouri.
