Mildred C. Dever
4/11/1926 – 9/9/2015
Millie Dever was born on April 11, 1926 in Conception Junction, MO, to George and Marie Waske. She was the oldest of 4 children, Millie being the oldest. She is preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Hubert & Bob. Her surviving younger sister, Essie is 96.
Millie was also preceded in death by three husbands and one step-daughter – Sally Davis House. Millie is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law's: Tom Sweeten, Greg & Terry Sweeten and Tim & Debra Sweeten, 2 stepdaughters: Bobbie Davis & Bonnie Davis, 4 grandchildren: David House, Danny (& Shannon) Davis, Baylee Sweeten Gooderl (& Nick Gooderl) and Matthew Sweeten, and 3 great grandchildren, Jacob Davis, Eloise and Winslow Gooderl.
Millie attended Mount St. Scholastica College (now Benedictine College), Atchison, KS, receiving her degree. After college, she moved to Kansas City and worked at KCPL. Millie married and moved to North Kansas City and had her three sons, Tom, Greg and Tim. She was a homemaker for several years, but returned to work at Woolf Brothers in Downtown Kansas City as a seamstress in the Bridal Department.
Millie re-married and moved to Raytown, MO, adding 3 step-daughters to her family, Bobbie, Sally and Bonnie. It was in Raytown she started her career as a manager of a TG&Y department store for over 15 years.
Millie retired and moved to Lampe, MO with her husband, where she spent some of her time working at Silver Dollar City as a surveyor. This was probably her favorite job of all time as she loved interacting with people. Millie never met a stranger! She also spent a great deal of time painting, gardening and sewing, three things that brought her much joy and that she enjoyed sharing with others.
While in Lampe, Millie married her third husband, but after his passing, she moved to Branson, MO, and eventually into an assisted living community, The Bungalows of Branson Meadows. This was Millie's final home. Millie was 99, missing 100 years by 7 months. Millie remained very social her entire life. She loved the activities and outings at her facility, she loved visitors, friends and family alike and she loved reminiscing about the past. Her memory was sharp, remembering each job, who she worked with, who her neighbors were, etc. She was truly a special, loving and caring person, throughout her life. She met every challenge with grace and determination and she accomplished much! She was loved, admired and will be sorely missed.
No services are planned at this time. Cremation was under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home, Kimberling City, MO
