Cape Fair

Obituary

Murray C. Chesebro of Cape Fair, MO was born in Sangerfield, NY, son of Lysle and Mary (Grace) Chesebro and passed away peacefully in his home with his wife of 62 years and his daughter by his side.

Murray was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest daughter, Sandra Haase.  He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Chesebro, his son, Michael Chesebro of Laramie, WY, his daughter, Lori Kelson of Hollister, MO and his brother Gerald Chesebro of Brookfield, NY; eleven grandchildren, Joshua Haase, Crystal Callesto, Amanda Somes, Sean Callesto, Jessica Haase, Travis Glass, Johnathan Callesto, Dustin Chesebro, Tyler Kelson, Cassandra Chesebro and Karina Kelson as well as 17 great grandchildren.

Murray was a gentleman and a mentor.  He had definite ideas about how boys should be developed into good men and how girls should be feminine but strong.  His influence with the youth will continue like ripples in a pond.

He was a story teller and he shared his life stories with friends and family because his life was filled with a multitude of different careers and experiences.  He made friends easily because he was always kind and slow to anger.  He told about growing up in a small town of Brookfield, NY with two churches, two bars, a general store and no traffic light.  The high school graduation class averaged twenty members and everyone knew everyone.

He served in the National Guard at Fort Drum Watertown, NY.  He knew about Veterinarian pharmaceuticals and dealing with the FDA.  He remembered how he and some classmates searched the muddy bottom of a swimming pool to rescue a 12 year old girl and saving her life with CPR.  That girl later became his wife.  He had many tales about marrying young and raising three bright and talented children.  Church life, football, ballet, theater and horses became the focus of our family life with a bit of camping, skiing and snowmobiling thrown in.

He managed a Morgan horse farm called Saddleback Farm and traveled up and down the East coast from Canada to Florida producing several champions.  He developed a working 1980's village for American Management Association called Americana Village.  Both were in Hamilton, NY.

A pile of logs delivered to a piece of land in Jamesville, NY was transformed into a beautiful log home with the help of three American Indians.  He belonged to the First Baptist Church of Manlius and served as a Deacon for a time.  This was when he became a landscaper, learning with the ProScapes crew until he formed his own landscaping company.

After retirement, he decided to relocate to WY where the younger grandchildren lived.  The air was too thin for him to remain physically active so Missouri appealed because the terrain was similar to his home town, the winters were more gentle but it still had four seasons.  The Branson area also had Silver Dollar City which has lured many retirees.  Some have said it's like running away to the circus and that is what he did for six years.

Murray's final resting place will be in the Brookfield Cemetery at a later time partially dictated by Covid travel restrictions.  In lieu of flowers, within the next month, do a special act of kindness in his memory.

Cremation was under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home Kimberling City, MO.
