Nancy
Barnhart
Nov 1, 1935 — Apr 26, 2024
Galena
Nancy Barnhart of Galena passed away Wednesday, April 26 at the age of 88. She was born to Elmer (Dutch) and Nanalea Barnhart on November 1, 1935, in Galena, MO, where she lived all her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant sisters, Mary and Nan; two brothers, William and Neal and three sisters, Phyllis Rogers, Ann Calhoun and Pam Mullins. She is survived by one brother, Joe Barnhart of Nixa, MO; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Everyone in town knew Nancy. She was a mainstay in the community, serving in many capacities in various organizations. Nancy was the go to person for information about the town. If she didn't know, she knew who to call. Most of her working life was spent at the Stone County Abstract Office. She retired at the age of 70, but soon grew bored and returned to work at City Hall until she was 80 years old. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 70 years. She was a member of the Kimberling City Chapter #164. She held many offices, including Grand Representative and spent countless hours serving the organization.
Family meant everything to Nancy. Although she never had children of her own, her siblings provided all the kids she could ever want. She was a very special aunt to fifteen nieces and nephews, as well as thirty one great and thirty nine great greats. She was an avid Cardinal fan and several times each summer she would load up four or five of us at a time and head to St. Louis for a ballgame. She loved hosting family gatherings and playing cards with her sisters. She will be missed.
