Obituary

Patricia "Patty" Ann Baker, of Cape Fair, Missouri, passed away on November 18, 2025, at the age of 73. Patty was born on July 13, 1952, in Grove City, Pennsylvania, to James Jackson "Jack" VanDyke and Dorothy Irene "Dot" (Burk) VanDyke.

Patty was the devoted wife of Floyd Evan Baker. They were married on March 30, 1968, at the Church of God of Prophecy in Leesburg, Pennsylvania, and shared 54 years of marriage before his passing. She was the loving mother of two children, Lori Ann Baker and Floyd Evan Baker Jr. Patty was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren: Floyd Evan Baker III, Jerl Carlyle Green, Darbrielle Patricia Green, and Jackson Floyd Hill. She was also a cherished "GiGi" to four great-grandchildren: Cash, Callie, and Coe Green, and Elouise Baker, due in the coming year.

Patty attended New Wilmington Area High School in Pennsylvania. She had various jobs throughout her lifetime, but being a wife and mother was where she found her greatest joy.   She was a Tupperware demonstrator, an Avon representative and enjoyed working as a Food Service sub at East Lawrence Elementary School.  She volunteered as Secretary of the PTO, a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader while her children attended school there.  After completing her GED she went on to become a Licensed Insurance Agent for American General Life Insurance Company, servicing Lawrence County and the surrounding area.  She was an avid seamstress and crafted crocheting. She made many outfits for her family and friends, including a beautiful white wedding gown and crocheted numerous Afghans and baby blankets for growing beloved family members and friends.

Patty was a longtime member of the Church of God of Prophecy, where she taught Sunday School and served as a VLB leader. She enjoyed many church activities, including VBS, craft bazaars, Rock-A-Thons, and hoagie sales. She also loved going on retreats with fellow church members—on one special retreat, she and Floyd renewed their wedding vows. Patty and Floyd often hosted youth gatherings, including hayrides, wiener roasts, and taco bars.

In 1986, Floyd and Patty sold their Pennsylvania Farm home to a coal company and relocated to Cape Fair, Missouri, to work at Table Rock Trails Resort in Reeds Spring. From there, they went on to work at Tyson Foods in Monett, retiring after 25 years making many lifelong friendships.

Patty had a smile that could light up a room. She had a warm personality that always made you feel special. She was a gracious hostess who enjoyed bringing family and friends together for any occasion. Let it be holidays, celebrations, or game nights. She devoted her life to her family, especially caring for Floyd in his final years, for which her loved ones are forever grateful.

Patty was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Evan Baker Sr.; her son, Floyd Evan Baker Jr.; her brothers, Jackson ("Jackie") VanDyke, Dale VanDyke; and her parents, Jack and Dot VanDyke.

Her memory lives on through her daughter, Lori Baker, of Lakeland, ;Florida; her daughter-in-law, Ruthie Baker, of Reeds Spring, Missouri; Grandsons: Floyd and Ashley Baker of Buffalo, Missouri; Jerl and Emily Green of Ozark, Missouri, Jackson Hill of Cape Fair, MO; Granddaughter: Darbrielle Green and Brian Holt of Cape Fair, Missouri; her brothers Donald VanDyke (Audrey) of Mercer, Pennsylvania, and James VanDyke (Debbie) of Branson, Missouri; as well as four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
