Col. (USAF Ret.) Pearce (Pete) H. Young, Jr. of Kimberling City, Missouri, passed away on July 22, 2021, at the age of 90.
He leaves behind his loving wife of over 40 years, Alice M. Young, to whom he devoted everything. Pete was a beloved father to his children, Bill Young and his wife, Michelle; Steve Young (his wife, Jenn, and son, Steve, Jr.); David Slaby and his wife, Jenni; Tim Slaby; his daughter, Cynthia Slaby; and he was a beloved grandfather to his grandsons, Luke and Nicholas.
Pete was a friend to many and a wonderful husband, father and grandfather to his family. He will be missed dearly.
Pete proudly served his country for 22 years as a pilot and staff officer in the U.S. Air Force. He accumulated approximately 9000 flying hours in numerous aircraft. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the Air Force in 1974 having earned the rank of Colonel. He then taught Air Force Junior ROTC for 18 years in Florida, North Carolina and Missouri.
He was a member of the Order of Daedalians (a fraternal order of military pilots), the Military Officers Association of America, Air Force Association and the Distinguished Flying Cross Society. Additionally, he was a member of the Rotary Club of Nevada, MO, for several years and was the founding member of the Rotary Club in Navarre, FL.
Pete was a tremendously principled and honorable man who taught his children how to be responsible, accountable and respectful to all. His children express their deepest gratitude for all he did for them.
Cremation was under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home, Kimberling City, MO.
