Obituary

Phyllis Loraine Avera Alvey, 79 of Cape Fair, MO died at home March 30, 2026

She was born the daughter of Alan Avera & Pauline Haase Avera on Feb. 27, 1947 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 44 years.

Phyllis and Dave had one daughter, Marilyn Marie Alvey.

She was born in Las Vegas, the oldest of 5 siblings. She loved working alongside her dad with horses. She was his boy, until 14 years later when her little brother was born. The family eventually moved to Orland, California where she met her lifelong love, Howard "Dave" Alvey.  They had 3 dates and felt that they had known each other their entire lives. On the end of that third date they ran away on a Harley.  Her dad talked them into coming back home until arrangements were made for these two to marry, a few weeks later, in Reno, Nevada on Aug, 22, 1964. Eighteen months later their daughter was born. They both had a great love for traveling and traveled all over the United States. Eventually settling in Cape Fair, Mo in 1995.  On June 21, 1986, Phyllis and her daughter Marilyn were baptized at the Houston Astrodome as Jehovah's Witnesses. Although an introvert, Phyllis loved the bible and teaching others all those truths she had learned, studying it. Phyllis loved family. She was a fantastic mother. She especially loved kids.  Not just her daughter but also her granddaughter, nieces and nephews! She loved it when they would jump into her lap and her loving arms. She was always there for them when they needed comfort or just a listening ear. Seldom was she found in pictures, but was always found behind a camera. She loved working in the yard planting flowers. When inside she could often be found drawing, writing songs or poems. She had a huge heart and will be missed dearly.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Howard "Dave" Alvey.  She was also proceeded in death by her parents Alan and Pauline Avera, her sister Connie Joe Taylor, her nephews Joseph Taylor, Joshua Taylor, Danny Alvey, Jerry Breck, Joseph Alvey, Jordan Coverdell, and niece Shelby Luncsford.
