Thomas "Jack"
Spencer
Sep 10, 1943 — Jul 19, 2026
Hollister, MO
It is with deep sadness we share the passing of Thomas Jackson Spencer, affectionately known as "Jack" who passed away Sunday July 19th, 2026. Jack was born on September 10th, 1943 in Bay Arkansas to Thomas and Annie Spencer. Jack, beloved husband of Brenda (Norwood) Spencer and proud father to Renee (Dave) Eckmann, Sonya McCord and Jason Spencer. Grandfather to Bryan and Daniel Eckmann, dedicated brother to Joyce Bennett, Emma Hanson and Jean (Roy) Craig. Brother-in-law of Quention and Betty Fletcher, Larry and Beverly Norwood and Barbara Busby. Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews and brother in Christ to his forever church family. Jack was preceded in death by Darrell Norwood and Joyce and Melvin Mink.
Jack grew up in the cotton farmlands of Northeast Arkansas. He loved playing point guard for the Bay Yellowjackets basketball team during his high school years. While in high school, Jack met his sweetheart, Brenda, and they married after his first year at Arkansas State University. During their first two years of marriage, Jack and Brenda farmed cotton in Arkansas and welcomed their first daughter, Renee.
In 1965, Jack moved his family to Rockford, Illinois to join his Spencer family and pursue a new career. Jack worked at National Lock during his first year in Rockford before joining Chrysler where he spent the next 40 years working as a Millwright. Jack and Brenda were blessed with a second daughter, Sonya, who was born in 1967 with her dad’s beautiful blue eyes. Thirteen years later, their son Jason was born, also with his dad’s blue eyes. Jack helped coach Jason's baseball team but the joy of his life was coaching Jason's Boys Club basketball team. Jack loved watching his son play sports and never missed even one game.
Jack worked very hard for 43 years to support his family, bought a cotton farm in Arkansas and traveled the United States on camping trips and other vacations with his family. Along the way he made many good friends and was blessed with two grandsons, Bryan and Daniel. In 2010 Jack fulfilled one of his dreams by retiring to Branson, Missouri and living on Table Rock Lake.
Jacks’ kind heart and giving spirit allowed him to have many good friends in addition to his family. Jack's presence made life more fun for all of us and his absence leaves a great void no one will ever fill. He will be remembered with great memories and love by family and friends.
